Global Forum for Fortune 500 and SME Cooperation 2016

Shanghai, China     September 12th and 14th, 2016

I. Background and Objective

As the great engine of the world economy and the main carrier of globalization, multinational companies are becoming the core organizer of international economic activities. They not only greatly promote the convergence of interests of all countries, but also strengthen the communication among talents and ease the flows of information. Multinational companies are becoming an important force in promoting the in-depth development of economic globalization and facilitating the construction of a new and open economic pattern.

SMEs also play a significant role in the economic society throughout the world. As the biggest emerging economy, China owns 4000 SMEs, accounting for 99% of the total number of enterprises and contributing 60% of GDP, 50% of tax and 80% of urban employment. Only with a sound development of SMEs can the world economy achieve a continuous, steady and healthy development.

A review of the development of multinational companies may reveal that all of them start from a small enterprise. Take Apple as an example. Founded in Jobs’ garage by Jobs and Wozniak, Apple becomes the leading company in the world after 40 years of development. In addition, every multinational company is a combination of SMEs. It is the cooperation of all industries and products made by SMEs that makes it possible for multinational companies to develop their own brands. Therefore, the convergence of multinational companies and SMEs is a trend for future development and will become increasingly obvious.

Today in the 21 century, under the massive impact of the IT revolution represented by Internet technologies, multinational companies are experiencing adjustments of global business strategies, and SMEs are also facing transformations and upgrades. How do multinational companies catch up with the time and establish the win-win cooperation with SMEs so as to become global companies in a faster way? How do SMEs fully use their own advantages to speed up their transformations and upgrades and to positively integrate into the international division of labors so as to have greater shares in the international market? These are urgent issues for leaders of multinational companies and SME entrepreneurs to discuss and solve.

Therefore, the Global Alliance of SMEs (GASME) proposes to hold the Global Forum for Fortune 500 and SME Cooperation 2016 together with China International Council for the Promotion of Multinational Corporations, Global Times, China Business Network, Western Returned Scholars Association, and Beijing Huaxia Management College. A batch of MNC and SME leaders will be invited to this forum to provide practical business suggestions based on their own experiences and to share their visions and insights on how to build a community of common destiny for MNCs and SMEs.

Meanwhile, the China Green Prosperity Forum 2016 will also be held in Shanghai.
